THE KATOOKE TOWN COUNCIL STRUCTURE
Explanation of the above Diagram
Town Council (Elected Councilors)
This is the highest decision-making organ. It debates,
formulates, and passes bylaws, policies, and development
plans for the town.
Mayor / Town Council Chairperson
The political head of the town council. He or she presides
over council meetings, provides leadership, and represents
the council officially.
Executive Committee
Composed of selected councilors. It assists the
mayor/chairperson in policy formulation and ensures
council resolutions are followed.
Council Committees
These are Sectoral Committees (i.e. Finance and Planning,
General Purpose Committees). They provide oversight,
scrutinize departmental work, and make recommendations
to council.
Principal Township Officer/Town Clerk
The Technical head of the town council, responsible for implementing council decisions, managing staff, and day-to-day administration.
Technical Staff
Includes heads of departments and professional officers. They provide technical expertise and implement council policies and programs.
Wards / Cells
These are the lowest local government units. They link the town council to the community and help in service delivery at grassroots level.

Mission
To ensure provision of effective and efficient services for economic development for the people of Katooke town council in conformity with national and local priorities for sustainable urban development.
Goal
Improved and effective service delivery to ensure value for money.
Background
Katooke town council became operational on 1st July 2010 being curved out of Katooke Sub County and it was Mwaro Parish then.
Location
It is found in Mwenge Central Constituency, Kyenjojo District, Tooro Region, Western Uganda, with six wards and 23 villages. It is approximately 20kms from the district headquarters along the Kyenjojo-Hoima-Kabwoya Road and the entire council is covering 55.9kms.
Geographically, it lies at approximately latitude 0.7540°N and longitude 30.7235°E bordered by Mabira Town Council to the North, Nyabirongo Sub County to the East, Katooke Sub County to the South West and Nyakisi Sub County to the West.
Population and its Characteristics
By 2024, Katooke town council had a population of 50126 reflecting 49.1% increase since 2014 and projections show that the population will reach 60000 by 2027 and the increasing demand for services, housing and employment.
This high population will in turn put very heavy pressure on the environment in several ways like causing pollution, resource depletion and also destroying the ecosystem.
The population is dominated by 80% Batooro and minority groups comprising 20% fostering social cohesion while requiring inclusive planning.
The town council has a predominantly youth population of 70% under the age of 30.
Local economy is mainly agriculture employing 80% of the households but faces a number of challenges mostly the changing weather patterns among others.
